Local Support
Getting into beekeeping can be overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone! There are many resources and people who can help you in your journey, from government and state organizations, to local clubs and associations. Read below to find some of our favorite resources!
State Apiary Program:
The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) here in our home state of Wisconsin has a wonderful Apiary Program with free resources and friendly inspectors that are worth taking advantage of! DATCP has an apiary program coordinator and two seasonal apiary inspectors available during the beekeeping season to provide free voluntary colony inspections to all beekeepers in WI. Inspections are offered from May through October and can help diagnose disease, pest, and other common problems.
Click here to visit the Apiary Inspection website, and/or schedule a free inspection!
State Organizations:
Becoming a member of your state organization is a great way to learn the latest beekeeping info, support government advocacy for beekeeping, get involved in educational opportunities, and attend educational events and conventions. Whether you are a single-hive hobbyist, or a commercial beekeeper, you are welcome in your state organization! If you are in Wisconsin we would love to see you at a WHPA event, and if not we're sure your state organization would be happy to get to know you!
